This month, we are featuring one of our valued team members, Kim Drake, as our Behind the Research blog series continues. The clinical trial process is one of the only things in life that supersedes Kim’s excitement for pasta. Read on to learn more about Kim.
Question: Tell us a little bit about your role. What motivates you to participate in clinical research?
Kim: My role here is that of Administrative Assistant/Receptionist. I strive to welcome everyone with a smile and a friendly greeting.
Clinical research is fascinating to me. I never knew how much time and effort went into clinical research. Looking at the medicine aisle of your grocery store, at your local pharmacy, or your doctor’s office, you only see the RESULTS of the trials. I have the privilege of seeing firsthand the amazing people who volunteer for our trials, the doctors, the trial coordinators, and the rest of the team behind the clinical trial process.
Question: What’s one work-related thing you want to accomplish in the next year?
Kim: I would like to see CMR get some clinical trials related to Covid. Having felt helpless against the virus for months, it would mean so much if we could play a part in helping to combat this virus.
Question: Do you have a favorite holiday? Why or why not?
Kim: Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. To hit PAUSE for a moment and BE THANKFUL for all the abundant blessings in life, to have family near, and the bounty of food on our table makes me feel so very grateful.
Question: What’s the career highlight you’re most proud of?
Kim: I would say a career highlight for me was being hired at CMR! To know your JOB is helping make a difference to improve the lives of those who suffer. I am proud every day to walk past the plaque which bears the CMR mission statement:
“To make a meaningful contribution to world health through clinical research while promoting wellness and the utmost care of our patients.”
Question: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Kim: PASTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Question: What is the thing you like most about your job?
Kim: I LOVE that here at CMR, we function as a TEAM! We genuinely care about one another, and that reflects in our daily interactions. Because we are all glad to be working here and with each other, it shows, and I think trial subjects like coming into a happy and friendly environment.
